Default cam fault

can anyone out there tell me what a cam fault is and would this cause m and s lights to come on . any help ta

Perhaps you are speaking of a CAN fault which is a communication link in the vehicle. In the workshop manual under automatic gearbox you will find a table of all codes from the tranny ECU.

Like :

P1841
(16)

* CAN bus fault Maintains current gear in low range, limp
home mode in high range. Shift pressure to
maximum, harsh gear shifts/engagement.

Mil light on M&S lights on

would this also be caussed if something like an aftermarket cd system was installed

The CAN buss connects some of the computer modules to each other, so a wire could have gotten pulled the wrong way. Pins 16 and 44 on the connector from the transmision ECU, which may be under left hand seat. May be a twisted pair wire. See attached. CAN is controller area network, links main ECU and transmission ECU.
