Default Camshaft sensor PO340 code problems. Help me please!

Hello forums, I am a new disco 2 owner and new here as well. Been loving our truck, but have a problem that I have been trying to solve for a while. I have search every possible post to try to get insight on the problem and still no fix.

Just after purchasing the truck I got a check engine light and the srs light was on as well from the previous owner, quickly found out about the lose connection problems under the pass side seat for the srs system, fixed it and the srs light is now gone. The I scanned for codes and got the PO340 Camshaft position sensor, and read that usually the truck runs poorly with this code, but did not experience this at first. I read to check the Crank Sensor first, and noticed the cover was barely holding on and took it off clean the sensor and re installed it with no changes.

Next I checked the Camshaft sensor harness and noticed that one of the wire connectors was kind of corroded, and the middle wire didn't seem all the way pushed into the harness on the wire loom side, I thought for sure that was the fault. put it back together and still have the code, BUT now the truck does seem like it is running rougher.

ANY help or insight would be greatly appreciated, I am going out now to get new plugs to see if that will help any...

Thanks a bunch, Adrian

This seems to be stating the obvious, but if you're checked the camshaft position sensor harness and are now sure it's good yet still have a camshaft position sensor code......change the camshaft position sensor.

Ya I totally agree... I have just been reading post that say the camshaft sensor rarely fails. But yes, That really sounds like the next step. Thanks for the reply.

Crazy... I have been looking for cheap Camshaft sensors and the cheapest one I could find was at rock auto for $250 (most are closer to $500)... until...

$100! Thought I would share.

So I installed the new sensor and I still have the check engine light... Any more thoughts on where to go next would be appreciated!
