Default Can serpentine cause check engine light?

So I was parking at work last night, and my check engine light started flashing....didnt have time to look at anything until i got home thismorning(light was solid on by this point). I added some seafoam to the gas tank hoping i maybe have a dirty injector or plug or something, and popped the hood to look at things and noticed my serpentine belt has a decent chunk taken out of it, it was fine a few days ago....

This is obviously a problem i need to get taken care of before I drive it any further than like 5 miles from home, but is it possible this is what caused my CEL to come on?

Oh ya, basics: 99 d2, 142k on clock.

Don't assume anything, go get your codes read and get back to us with the 4 digit fault code numbers, and don't forget to get a new belt.

tune up sounds right, but get your codes read. Don't drive with a flashing light. If it is flashing, it is bad. Get the codes read, and don't buy anything at the parts house but a belt for now...

Get back here with the 4 digit codes

ya im going to get the codes read when i can find a place that does it cheaper than $100....orange county isnt friendly to the land rover owner. im just hoping getting the serpentine changed is less than a grand.....

also my check engine isnt flashing anymore, its just on....and i didnt assume anything, just hoped.... it only took a second to pour a bottle of seafoam in the gas tank, which it prob needed anyway since its been a while.

ANY autoparts store will read the codes for free.
Take a pad of paper and a pen with you and right down the numbers, they may even bne kind enough to tell you what they mean.
Write it all down and post on here in a new thread.
As for the belt, do you have any hand tools at home?
If so you can replace the belt yourself, the belt is about $35 at a autoparts store.

Ya ive got some hand tools, but not much metric stuff oddly. i generally dont have the time to learn to do it myself, even tho thats obviously the best route to go... i hate having something i dont know how to work on myself but i have limited freetime.

Ive got a little spare time on monday to get this stuff taken care of, think pep boys can swap out my belt and give me my codes? or do they not work on rovers?

Pep Boys can do it, you wont need metric for your Rover, after all it was made using the Queens measuring system which we brought with us on the Mayflower.

Never assume anything while you own a Disco, it can sneak up and bite you.

The answer to your question is NO. The serpentine having a chunk missing will not make the check engine light to come on.
