Can you replace core (freeze) plugs while the motor is installed.
It looks to me like the freeze plugs can be replaced while a 2000 Disco engine is intact by removing the starter and engine mounts. Am I correct, or does it have to come out? If it can be done, does anyone have suggestions for getting the plugs out which are not protruding enough to get pliers on them?
Thanks-

I have seen a punch bar used to twist them out on an engine already removed from the vehicle. I will only need to twist out 2 of the 6. The rest have expanded out enough to get with pliers. Are you familiar with a good technique to get the others out since there is not enough room to use the punch bar?

Yes -
I had the engine torn down in my driveway for leaking intake gasket and radiator. Took it down to head gaskets and because of the leak and adding water to keep it cool, the antifreeze was out of ratio. While all the hoses were off and most water was gone, I had forgotten to drain the block, and bam, an ice storm hit in texas for about 4 days. Haven't seen that in over 25 years. Anyway most of the plugs popped out and I am hoping they drained the bulk of the H2O. I can't see any visible craks on outside, and I am praying there is no internal damage. Guess I will know when I fire it up.
