CD player display says "no disc" but I have discs
Take cartridge out then pull cd player out from under seat there are four little screws that hold the top cover on, remove them and re-grease the little gears inside cd player. Over time the factory grease dries up and the gears get stiff once you get gears greased up...
I used di-electric grease just in small amounts remember they are small gears and do not need a whole lot. I don't think you have to use that just what i had in arms reach. You could probably use anything really. Good luck, don't loose your screws.
The top cover tucks inside the housing get a small flat head and gently pry open then you will see where it slips inside the sides. You can start in one place and work your way around until top cover pops up. Remember to plug back in once top is removed and start to run threw a cycle so you can get a idea for what gears turn, then apply you grease to the gears and run threw a few cycles again to work grease into gears to confirm everything is turning smoothly. You may find animal hair or little chunks of dirt in-between the teeth of the gears not allowing them to turn with ease clear any debris out and then apply grease!

Upon reading this forum I went outside and tried a couple of things. When I bought the 2003 Range Rover HSE the cd tray would not remove. I did the tap it with the screwdriver fix and it came out. I then continued to listen to burned cds for approx a week successfully and the cartridge would eject fine. After that week I tried to play a disc it would eventually say no discs. In conclusion the same fix for removing the tray (hitting the tray with the back of a screwdriver while holding the eject button) is the same fix for this problem minus holding the eject button. Now in order for it to actually read the cds I must eject the tray, put cds into the tray, re-insert the tray into the cd changer and then tap on the tray with the back of the screwdriver until it finished reading all of the discs. It seems as though the grease inside has worn off of the gears and tapping it helps the mechanisms when they get stuck.
Mine will say "CD ERROR". I carry a can of air in the glove box just for spraying down inside the cd player when the cartridge is removed, then it works again (ususally). Just need to get a better stereo and plug the phone in....on the list.
Mine was doing that a couple of years ago. Instead of trying to fix it, I sent the head unit off to GB 4x4 Radios and had a mp3 player jack installed and it's worked great since then. I haven't missed the cd player at all.

After fooling around with mine for a while and getting marginal results, I finally gave up and got a used one from Paul Grant. Very reasonable price.
