CDL Lock Out Solenoid wiring

Default CDL Lock Out Solenoid wiring

Hi guys,

I got the CDL from 04. It has solenoid that locks the lever position. I guess it wires like the old one or does it have to wired specifically?

I'm gonna take it that you have a 99-03 D2 and you added the 04 CDL Linkage. If so you will have the 4hi/N/4lo interlock solenoid on the transfer case. Then when you add the 04 Linkage it has the 4hi/N/4lo interlock solenoid mounted on the actual shifter assembly.

You basically have two choices. Bypass the unit on the Transfer Case & just plug in the 04 interlock solenoid into the old solenoids place and call it a day (better in the long run as the 04 setup us easier to get to). Or just bypass the 04 interlock solenoid and keep your original setup.

The CDL itself does not have a interlock. The interlock on our D2's keep you from going into N or 4lo while in gear. CDL is just cable activated via the lever going left/right and it can be done in gear.

I can see how the CDL lever works.

I am not sure if I am following your second paragraph.

If I am understanding this correctly, there is a lock out on older D2 where the solenoid is located at the transfer case?

How do you "bypass" the 04 solenoid? Is this done electronically to permanently turn on the solenoid or permanently cut the actuator?

Yes older D1/D2's the interlock is mounted directly onto the transfer case. With the 04 linkage they moved it away from the transfer case and mounted directly to the 04 linkage. To bypass it you can cut the solenoid rod off, or use a zip tie or wrap it with tape to prevent the solenoid actuator from blocking the 4hi/n/4lo selector.

When I acquired my 04 linkage kit I simply removed the solenoid and wiring entirely from the unit. You'll need to scrape the caulking/glue stuff away from the front of the solenoid then you'll simply remove a c clip and pull out the solenoid itself. Super easy to do.

That's what I did when I installed a 04 CDL last year in my 2001. Just remove the
silicone calking, take out the snap ring and the solenoid will come out.
