Thankfully when I bought my replacement steering box, the drop arm was preinstalled. Doesn't look like a fun job.
I bellieve, he thinks it is not positioned correctly on the selector shaft, and it is turning one direction more than the other. Sounds like it hits the stop, turning one way, but not the other. At least...that's what I'm getting out of all of this.

Steering linkage - centralise
57.35.05

The following procedure assumes that the front
wheel alignment is correctly adjusted.
May want to do adjustments per manual first.
