Default Central Locking Problem

Hi, Im new here and this seemed to be a similar prob to what im having with central locking too, with my recently purchased 99disco td5..

to start with the battery had died on the previous owner,it looked like the original to be fair, so for piece of mind bought new battery which is now fitted..

so the keyfob/handset will lock the car but wont unlock,
it will disarm so i can manually unlock drivers door,

the button by clock will open the boot, but no other doors (you can hear the other doors unlocking but they dont) and can manually open doors from inside...any ideas much appreciated

have also downloaded the rave thingy...

where would the fuse be for the doors as a previous reply suggests

help

Sounds like your door lock actuators are bad.
Very common problem.

Yah this is a very common problem, I too am stuck in the same mess as you. The problem isnt with the fuses becuase you wouldnt here the locking mechanism sound when you try to unlock them. The problem is in the actuator, its like a 400 dollar part or something but alot of the time its a 20 cent spring inside the actuator. I wouldnt recomend going in and trying to fix em yourself unless you really know what your doing though. I tried to get it out myself and now I'm stuck with a door that doesnt function, its just stuck shut. Hope everything turns out good for you.

You guys can buy used ones, or you can rebuild yours.

My problem is similar, maybe you can help.......
I will describe as fully as possible.
The Vehicle is a 2004 LR Discovery II TD5 Facelift model.
A short time ago, we had a little crash. It didn't render the vehicle un-drivable but did require an insurance claim to deal with the damage to the front of the vehicle. When the vehicle was repaired and returned to us, all seemed fine but soon after we noticed a problem with the locking. As foillows:
1. Locking fron the fob works perfectly
2. Locking at 5mph works perfectly
3. Locking from the dash switch works perfectly
4. Locking from the key works perfectly.
5. Unlocking from the fob, key or switch does not unlock the two rear doors
6. Unlocking from the fob, key or swith works for the two front doors and the tail-gate.

I have checked and re-checked the obvious issues and have concluded that I know nothing about car electrics. Using logic instead of ability in these matters, my opinions are as follows:
1. Cannot be an actuator as both doors malfunctioned at the same time;
2. Cannot be the tiny springs as both doors malfunctioned at the same time;
3. Cannot be a broken wire as both doors malfunctioned at the same time;
4. I have checked the child-locks but it can't be this as it is able to open from the inside using the handle !
I have changed the battery in the fob and have put WD40 in the door latch ???
PLEASE HELP. Unfortunately we have no easy way of getting to a LR Main Dealer as there isn't one within a three hour drive !!!!
I have brought it to a local mechanic who has plugged it into a diagnostic unit and no errors on the central locking are showing up.
Has anyone got any idea what I can do to fix the problem.

Certainly interesting problem. The D2 uses the same wires and connections to lock and unlock. This is done by reversal of the polarity of the voltage going to the door lock motors. But the rear doors, passenger door, and rear hatch all share the same header (junction point connector C292) and are supplied voltage by the same relay of the IDM module behine the fuse panel. If a wire was open, it would neither lock or unlock. Based on what you have said, I believe you need to service the two rear door lock actuators, perhaps they were jiggered by the impact.

I also have had problems with central locks from the day I got it. Some doors worked fine, some didn't. Driver's door was fine all the way up until last evening. I locked the car with the key (don't have a remote) and went to the store. Came back, stuck the key in, and... it just turns freely without doing anything at all. So the truck can no longer be locked at all. What could have happened between me locking the thing, and an hour later, unlocking? Oh yea, it did unlock, at which point immediately the lock became useless. Should I take the door apart?

It just happend without any warning, everything worked fine (well, not everything, but this particular door lock) and at one point it just happened ))

Yes. It's a known fault -- hence the aftermarket replacement pin.
