The only problem with the breaker bar is that after you break it loose, it is still a bitch to turn, at least with the ratchet, I could leave it seated and work it a few clicks at a time. The light was important to help keep it squarely seated.

The PB Blaster really helps, especially with a few days soaking time.

 

Finally got around to do it. This time the filler plug came off rather easily with a small 8" extension on the ratchet. The drain plug came off easily too. There's nothing like a long PB soaking.

There wasn't too much shavings on the plug magnet, but the oil seemed slightly opaque.

I put in Castrol synthetic gear oil. The result was amazing. Much smoother and much easier transfer case shifting.

 

Clarification: The extension used was a pipe on the ratchet handle. The 1/2 ratchet was inserted directly in the filler plug.
