Default Changing Alternator...

Hello All and Disco Mike,

I was wondering if you could offer any advice on changing the alternator in a 2000 Discovery. I just purchased a brand new battery from Sears and after about two days of driving, the battery is dead. This happened to me in a Nissan over the summer, so I'm assuming it's the same issue with the alternator in this car - sorry - truck. I want to know if I should attempt to change the alternator myself ? I have the Workshop manual and the diagrams make it look pretty easy. Is there anything I should consider before starting this endeavor ?

You know what they say about assuming???
Did they test your charging system before you bought the battery?
I would have someone load test the battery and alternator before yo do anything.
If the alternator is bad, it is an easy replacement, if it is the battery I would have sears reinburse you for their battery and get someone else's battery.
Get back to me if you have any questions.
Mike

Thank you Disco Mike,

As it turns out, my negative terminal wasn't making proper contact with the battery terminal. I just cleaned it and it is now starting up and running fine. Didn't need to replace the alternator after all - not yet anyway.
