You're right... the joints you received are the Medium Duty 10Ds.

If you want the Heavy Duty then it's the 10G's with the proper metal caps.

L8 should sort this out no worries, if not call Trevor.

Excuse my ignorance, but I thought the U joints were supposed to have grease nipples on the ends? How do you tell if you have a "serviceable" driveshaft... I'm lost.

Thanks

GKN/Spicer, Moog and some knockoffs have the nipple in the valley. Some Neapco and Neapco knockoffs have the nipple in the caps.

So I guess the Lucky 8 have them in the valley?

Jared, about your u-joint, AllMakes labels the GKN joints as HD metal cap and HD rubber cap and compared to the Regular Duty the one you have really is Heavier Duty although it is not what is normally referred to as the Heavy Duty joint.

The AllMakes stickered GKN of a few years ago were labeled as County of Origin Japan on the HD rubber cap (medium duty) and Country of Origin Germany on the HD metal cap (heavy duty). Now I think both the GKN metal cap and rubber cap are Japan. Even the $100+ Genuine LR boxed GKN HD part is Japan now. So I guess if you buy a GKN tvc100010 u-joint regular, medium, or heavy duty it is Japan now. (All probably made by NTN Bearing Japan)

I'm not sure if you can even find the old Hardy Spicer green boxed Heavy Duty joint for our trucks anymore and awhile back I read there were some of those being sold for over $100 but were actually counterfeited boxes with the $40 Japan GKN HD metal cap u-joint inside.

Also there are alot of knockoffs and cheap copies of the HD 10G with metal cap joints floating around that are not GKN boxed and don't have GKN cast on the u-joint... from what I hear they are real crap so avoid those at any cost.

I guess i'll throw the u-joint on the spare parts shelf next to the drive shaft and try and find a real TVC100010G U-Joint.

Anyway, the L8 picture is obviously of the 10G HD metal cap but I personally wouldn't hesitate to use the 10D one that you have...especially in the rear.

I think the Medium Duty is closer in construction to the Heavy Duty than it is to the Regular Duty and from what I understand the quality is good. Measure to see if yours has the 18mm diameter bearing journal.

Here is an article but, it is comparing the Regular Duty to the Heavy Duty and does not show the Medium Duty for comparison. Also the cost is a little higher here in the U.S. so disregard the pricing.

I just installed the L8 shaft this weekend and I have not had any squeaking or chirping from it. Also, the grease fittings on in the caps of the u-joints on mine.

I think they come both ways. Different runs. Some with valley nipples, some with cap nipples.
