I like the modification, and embrace the meaning of the word.

If I were a true LR aficionado I would buy an OEM lighter with the proper logo on the lighter bit.

Good work on the write up.

I plugged a mattress inflator into cig lighter, through a power investor and also directly. Immediately powers off. Trying to inflate kayak and paddle boards? Any ideas on how to make this work? No problems on my SUV, but no go on 04 Disco. Thoughts greatly appreciated.

Did you try the accessory 12v port in the cargo area?

Nice mod. I'm thinking about doing this, or adding a few USB ports on the side of the center console near the knee.

My current USB mod is I dremeled out the blank switch next to the fuel switch and added a USB port there. It's powered via GROM audio. It's the perfect location for my phone, as I have one of those simple air vent magnetic iphone mounts. Then I bought a 6" coiled USB cable.

Yeah I like my mod. I don't smoke and the plug in chargers are picky in the OEM port so I ditched it. I installed another one into my 99 and I'm extremely happy with the results and quality of the unit.

Is the dual USB port 1.5A or 5A? Some devices don't charge (or run) at the lower amperage.
My original socket broke and I replaced with with something similar to that Napa piece. Adapters and plugs kept falling out of the OEM one but I've had no such trouble with the replacement -- plus I get to choose what adapter I put in there to suit my needs.

Pretty sure it's a 5AMP, I charged an Ipad on it, and yeah I "used" to have adapters for gps, and misc phones, but those adapters usually fell apart and most gps, and cell phones just use USB cords so I ditched the socket that dissolved in my hands.

Mod isn't for everyone, but I can still use the old socket stuff if needed via the back socket.

I think it's a great mod, haven't seen anyone use a cigarette lighter ever in my life other than to power things and usb's are a standard now for most electronics you might regularly use. You got me thinking about wanting to do the mod this weekend. Thanks for the post.
