Question Cleaning pistons

I have attempted to clean the carbon out of the ring grooves of my pistons. I used a brass brush and broken piston rings to try to clean. I have used various solvents like acetone, brake clean and wd-40. How can I clean them better? Or are they good enough?

I use spray-on oven cleaner to clean heads. You can't leave it on very long (couple of minutes) as it will degrade the alloy, but it usually gets rid of most of the buildup.

In my experience, carbon deposits were water-soluble. Try water and an old toothbrush. Remember the KISS principle.

You can get a ring groove clean or possibly rent one, I found dipping into boiling hot water for a few minutes 1st helped
