I picked up a Standard Motor Products UF-545 Ignition Coil, 8mm magnecor wires, and ngk g power plugs for my 2004 and its been great for the past 1000 miles.

The coil pack ran about $45 shipped.

After the tune up I got 17mpg on a 700mile round trip to Phoenix.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I did some research, and I believe the plugs have 30k plus on them. I decided to do Bosch Iridium instead of NGK so I do not have to gap them.

I'd highly recommend any brand plug other than Bosch. They make notoriously bad spark plugs and I wouldn't use them even if someone gave me them for free. Gapping is super simple and a gap tool is only like 98¢. Other brands make pregapped plugs too if you're just totally against gapping them yourself, but its really super easy.

So true! I wouldn't run a Bosch spark plug in a lawnmower. It's NGK for me.
As for "pregapped plugs", you still need to CHECK the GAP anyway so just get a good gap tool. Very simple process.

x2 DO NOT use the Bosch platinum plugs with the flush mounted center conductor!!!!!!! Or the silly x2 or x4 Bosch plugs. You will have misfires very shortly & you’ll be thinking coils & wires when it’s just a crappy fouled Bosch plug.

NGK Platinum or Iridium are excellent plugs & I’ve had fantastic results in LR V8’s. (Fairly certain NGK plugs are OEM in the LR3). Heck even Autolite Iridium or Double Platinum work good. Whatever you use just do yourself a favor and avoid Bosch plugs like the plague!

Also as said above you should always check the gap no matter what.

Any opinions on the current run of champion platinums? My local rover specialty shop strongly disapproved of them. This is of course after I had already installed them.

Last Champion Platinum’s I used did not perform well. I went with Autolite Iridium as they were the only ones in stock & I liked them much better vs the Champions.

Mad mileage? Bad throttle response? Misfire?

Funnily enough there isn't a lot of solid data on champions within the last 5 years or so.
