Good write-up that helps solve the problem if your springs are still intact. Mine, of course, are not. Off to the bone yard or eBay to find springs. Maybe a center cup holder also since my vehicle has the blank plastic plate.

 

Let me know where you find them. I tried to do the repair tonight and found that one of my springs is missing altogether.
I modified this fix with some 19 gauge tie wire and it worked perfectly.

 

So, mine is stuck closed. it is crammed in there, the surface is less than flush if that makes sense. I do not believe there is anything thing in there holding it closed.
I would love to get it open and fixed, any ideas, with out just ripping it open?

Mine stuck a few times. I was able to force it loose from underneath/behind.
