I need to be able to drive to a location where I will photograph at sunrise and sleep there. Right now I have a child seat for my grandson in the back seat most of the time. When he has outgrown the carseat, I will do something.
How hard is it to remove the upright only portion of the rear (NOT 3rd row) portion of the seats? -or- is it easier to just fully remove rear seats all together and make a platform to square up with cargo area foot print? TX.

Just saw you never got a response. Removing the whole seat is very simple. I believe its only 4 bolts per seat. Maybe 6 on the longer one, but I don't think so. You'll need a large torx, can't remember what size off the top of my head.

Sorry I missed this question. I removed the seat, not the seat backs. The seat backs fold flat. The seats are spring-loaded, so while removing them isn't hard, putting them back in is a bit of a challenge. Not insurmountable, but simply challenging. In the future, I'd like to avoid it so I will eventually make a platform that will fit over the folded seats and provide storage below.

David, Got a Q. When you removed your seats, did you remove including the springs? I would like to remove mine but I'm not sure if the springs will unwind and not be able to reload it back. I just want to replace the torn seats (larger side) but the other replacement I have does not have springs. So, my replacement requires the springs to be moved to the other seat. Is that doable?

The springs are part of the hinges and are under tension has you undo the bolts. I'm not sure I have the answer to your question. I've only done this a couple of times and it's been two or three years ago now. With a child seat in the backseat it's a little hard for me to do it very often.

Can the rear seats be removed individually? As in removing just one and the center section while leaving one in back for a kid's seat or a second adult (my dog says he called DIBS on shotgun long ago...)?
Thanks.

You can. I had mine like that for some time.
