Coolant leak

And with the oil sump / oil pan off, it allows you another method to release the harmonic balancer (big honkin' pulley at the bottom). Pix shows one way, you can also use a breaker bar wedged against the ground and bump the starter (turn key for a moment).
And doing this all for a friend means somebody else will be buying the brew for awhile.

In order to replace the timing cover gasket, you have to remove the timing chain, and waterpump.
Why would you put the old stuff back on for under $100.00, you could replace them and be done.
The oil pump is a little more but the same hold true, do you want to spend another day ripping the front of the engine apart because you didnt replace something while you were there.

thanks to all, plan of action:
1. replace oil sump/ pan gasket (looks nasty and might be leaking)
2. replace oil pump (i do here a slight tick from time to time when idling)
3. replace timing gasket
4. replace oil seal
5. replace timing chain (worried about this one, seems difficult, anyone have liteture on replacement steps?)

See attached. As a first step, I encourage you to download your own free copy of the RAVE, and read up on any task you plan to undertake. By having the same info that is supplied to the dealership mechanic you will have a head start on the problem. By having your own copy, you won't have to wait for a reply post on the site.
While the Rover is simple, why go at it un-armed? Plus, the advance DIY can "justify" a flat screen (50 inch or bigger) plus wifi/cable modem plus PC in the garage, so that when taking a break from wrench turning, activities on spaces of grass, hardwood, or ice can be closely monitored.
