That shop is a ripoff.
You can fix it yourself in a garage.

I did fix mine in a parking lot in Boulder CO in March 2012.
Don't pay all that.

Here is about what you need to do.

Does this sounds right?

This is not a dealership but an independent mechanic who works on LR.
That estimate is high for a head gasket, but if you look at the parts list, they're also resealing the front cover, replacing the water pump and replacing the O2 sensor. That should be around 16 hours labor (11 on the HG and 5 on the cover and other stuff like the O2 sensor). Don't know what the labor rate is in your area. But it's not that far off. (I'm assuming it needs the stuff listed, I have no way of verifying that)

Jfall how long did it take to do the job? besides the items listed and tools what other items are needed also what is the skill level needed to do the Job?

Can Bar's leak damage any part of the engine?

I looked at the cost of the parts from British Atlantc and the total for the same parts came to $590.00 + shipping.

For the other questions asked.
It has 71,000 miles.
I use premium gas 93 octane.
The on going rate for labor is between 70 and 90 dollars an hour.

Thanks for all the info.
