$2000 replacement heads? That seems high. Very high. You could buy an entire used engine for half that, pull the heads of and have them gone through and still be into it for less than $2000.

Shop around! Get a second, third and fourth opinion as long as it is driving and not overheating.

Actually I would run from that place. Something sounds fishy.

$2200 is around the going rate for a HG job with the heads being machined and valve job included.

yes, go have someone else test your truck to see if it indeed does need head gaskets.
doughful that you will need heads, very few do. if so $2k is crazy.
you can buy heads already done and a gasket kit from will tillery for like $6-700

Exactly. I can understand there is alway a potential for a cracked head or something, but I don't think it is all that common, and with as many junk rover V8 laying around, it shouldn't be $2000 to find a core, and certainly no reason to buy brand new heads for one of these engines.

The Will Tillery route mentioned sounds like a good plan too, because I've heard the heads he sends have been machined well and look amazing.

If I had a D2 that needed an engine, and I wanted "like new" condition, I'd buy a turner short block like Julian did, and a set of Will's cylinder heads.

You can buy a running DII for less than 2k in San Antonio, Texas. I can find you one, just give me the lock actuator as a gift! )
