Headgasket blown can only get coolant in the oil via coolant leaking down the cylinder walls. With the rings - highly unlikely.

Coolant could maybe be pushed out thru a crack in the block - but that is a water jacket so no, would not happen that way.

Coolant CAN get into the oil IF the valley gasket is not sealing the Manifold to the head correctly.

In this case ---- coolant LEAKS into the V of the valley and right into the SUMP.

The coolant travels through the intake manifold and the heads and that seal can go bad.

Other place that can go wrong is the timing cover / oil pump area.
Coolant travels through there and can mix with oil when there are gasket problems.

But as far as a head gasket causing this - NO, not really.
the oil goes up through ONE little hole thru the block and thru the head to the rocker arms.

Question::
Why is there what seems to me like a tranny fluid line connected to the front cover
Thanks all very very much
if you are looking at the front cover bottom left? i believe that is an oil line to the oil cooler.

ok guys i dont know if anybody still looks at this but here is an update
i replaced the front cover gasket, timing chain and gears water pump as well, and the oil pan gasket
replacing the front cover gasket seems to have done the trick i pressurized the cooling system before i put the oil pan back on held it like that for a while and no water came down the block
seems like i got lucky
thank you all so very very much for all your help
keep on roving

Awesome. Just keep a weathered eye. Fixing one leak can sometimes reveal another. Happened to me.

Damn phone with small buttons, damn my fat fingers... lol.

I resealed the timing cover, oil pan, replaced the WP and tstat. 12 days later I smell coolant. It's leaking from the back on the drivers side. Undetermined if it's HG or valley pan. It drips down and hits the o2. Nothing In the oil, no sweet smell, no misfires (for now). It only drips when hot. And barely.

I'm not saying you will have the same.. just keep a lookout and your nose up. I check the antifreeze every time the truck is cold before I go anywhere. Before work, before I go home that morning. I get laughed at for my "paranoia".

You may be paranoid, but your Rover stays cool, for good reason, your pananoia---that isn't necessarily a bad thing, though only a Rover owner would understand---LOL.
