Default cooling fan removal

Got 4 hrs into trying to get this cooling fan off. Holding the clutch with tool and trying to loosin nut does nothing. The clutch spins independently of the nut/shaft. The belt dosent hold the waterpump shaft/nut enough to loosen fan. Pulled belt and tried a strap wrench on pully, still slips. Any ideas that worked from experience?

Short answer is: Hold the pulley not the clutch. I replied in your other thread as well.

Either use an air chisel on the edge of the nut, hit a 32mm wrench on the end with a steel hammer while the belt is on, or use the proper pulley holder.

Right. Did the hammer on the wrench. Belt still slipped on pulley. Applied more tension on tensioner whilst hammering still slipped.

I use the sheath off of an axe head.....it is like a thick leather wedge. I stuff it between the hb pulley and belt, in a way so that the more I loosen the fan nut, the tighter the belt gets and effectively holds shaft in place while I turn the wrench.......has worked for me 100% of the time

yup leave the belt on tight, stuff rags between the pulley and the belt, as you tighten the rags will jam the pulley

Every time this question comes up people share their cheap methods; however, buying the official special tools for this was the best $200 I ever spent. No more busted knuckles, no more cursing, it literally take me 15 seconds to remove the fan clutch now.
