So... as I was doing some tune-up work on my 2003 Disco, I noticed that one of the 40a fuses was blown in the box under the hood. I promptly replaced it and since I hadn't had any (noticeable) troubles, thought nothing of it.

I returned home and checked the fuse after romping about town and to my dismay, it was blown again. So, I looked it up.

The fuse is in the F5 position in the underhood fuse box. The picture next to it is a radiator with a fan in the middle. I checked the manual, and it's listed as "Cooling Fans."

I haven't had any temperature problems, and I know that the guage is working.

My questions:

What exactly are the "Cooling Fans?"

Has anyone else had the same experience? If so, what did you do to correct it?

Well, the cooling fan is the fan in front of the radiator, are 2 Elc. Fan one of them, and for the Fuse blowing is one of the fans with high AMPS, sorry to say that you have to find out and change the fan.

 

Either you have a bad wire to the fan or the fan motor is locking up, it will need to be replaced ASAP, are you under any warranty?

Where is the fan located? I'll be honest, I haven't done a lot of knocking around in my engine compartment yet.

I have an easier time believing it's something with the wiring. And since I'm not one to just "throw" parts at my trucks, I want to be sure it's the fan before replacing it.

There are 2 fans in front of the radiator for additional cooling. They come on mostly when you have the a/c on. I am pretty sure that you can only buy them new in pairs, but you can find good used ones at www.roverlandparts.com

You can pull the connectors off of each fan and check for continuity to ground (aka short) on the terminal leads with a multimeter. Only one of the leads should have continuity to ground. More than that and you have the wire in your hand with the short

Elsewise, it's one of the fan motors.
