Default Cooling system or head gasket

I am confused about my 2001 Disco. I seem to be going though coolant like it is water. It starts up fine, sometimes it is a little rough idling and the check engine light comes on sometimes.

One day I noticed the temp gauge climbing to the red so I pulled over let it cool down and I put coolant. Ran fine but about a half hour later was over heating again. No coolant or what coolant that was there looked like it was boiling. Took it to a mechanic and they replaced the water pump and some hoses. I probably got ripped off. About two weeks later it started smoking and drops of water coming out the exhaust, and it smelled like burning coolant. Everything I have read suggests this is a head gasket problem. I let it sit for a week and now it doesn't smoke just water comes from the tailpipe and the coolant in the reservoir is bubbling. For about six months it has a constant sound of rushing water behind the dashboard. Everything works great except for the cooling system problem. I have a hard time believing it is the head gasket

The engine runs fine and I don't see any evidence of coolant in the oil. I am not driving and am hesitant to take it to a mechanic til I have more info so I don't get ripped off again.

Has anyone experience this before.

whats the mileage on your truck? have you done the headgaskets already? are you seeing coolant pool on your driveway? are you experiencing a loss in power? what is the CEL code you are getting? you need to properly bleed the coolant system, read the "How to" section.

my guess is that it is the head gaskets. Check the radiator, the thermostat, all hoses. Fill the coolant level and bleed it properly. MOST IMPORTANTLY I wouldn't drive it unitl you get it checked out by a qualified mechanic. Sounds like you are very close to toasting the engine, if you haven't done so already. Sorry for the less than optomistic news. Do not drive it, not one mile...........Phil
