The coscast retooled block looks nice but apparently they grenade just like the early blocks for the same reasons. This one went 180K which is pretty good before it went boom. I agree this block would be the best choice available for Darton top hats; wish I had one.

Coscast were engineered and specced by Cosworth who 'helped out' with the ailing Rover V8 before they were put into the supplier market. Why Cosworth wanted any part of the Rover interest beggars belief - must have crossed their palms with silver ....................... or gold.

Spilt milk Abran, I've shed some tears over things and cars I've sold cheap in the past and even today. Stockmarket shares being the real bummer

My 04 has a short block that was installed by the dealer under warranty for a previous owner. It certainly looked to be a better block than many I have seen pictures of, but the heads were reinstalled by the mechanics at the dealership and started weeping coolant 50,000 miles later so it didn't help me too much. All the best components aren't worth much if they are assembled improperly. At least the block wasn't cracked.

If you can get visual access to the the edge that meets the passenger side head front of motor, there should be a.stamped serial number if it's a coscast.

I PDI'd A thousand discos, there was one truck I drove, black on black 04, that had 100 HP more than the other trucks. This truck was so fast I grabbed another guy from the shop to take a ride. We waxed about it being a 5.0 from a TVR, or some prototype they took off the wall and installed in an assembly truck.

I bought that (Coscast) block from Abran about 5 years ago. It’s in my truck and running strong!
