Default Cracked Block Check?

So, I got antsy before my leak down tester arrived and I pulled one of the heads ( the other one has a stripped bolt - see my other thread).

Anyway, where do these blocks crack?

Is the crack obvious?

I figure I would check the block over while the heads are getting done (once I get the other one off).

She was puking oil out the valve cover but maybe elsewhere too.

Thanks for all the help folks. I will be able to provide some good insight after my Disco is up and running - take the load of you guys a bit.

take pictures and send it to a dealer to get his opinion. but the only sure fire way to know about a cracked block is to literally seal the water jackets off and every coolant hose and pressure test from there.

Isn't there also a chemical treatment you can use to locate block cracks?

I could do a die penetrant check but I won't be able to get to all areas with it installed.

I do not see any cracks, I just though if they do crack in a particular place, I could have a look-see at my block...

The only one I've seen (video) was at the edge of the sleeve, just out side the top of the liner. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sourc...047ogsmftzC82g

Get out you're popcorn. LOL

maybe this will help.

WOW! That is an interesting video. What's scary is that they developed a tool (kit) to find cracked blocks. Must mean it is common.

Yeah, I'm sure if there wasn't a market for it, they wouldn't have developed the product. Ouch.

$250 seems like a lot for what it is. I will make my own. At least I will be able to lend out to others on the forum. You should only need it once or twice in your lifetime.
