Default Cracked Windshield

Is it my luck or what? Driving down the road Friday and no one else around. Then my windshield decides to crack in the middle where the rearview mirrow attaches. About6 inchesdown and 12 inches out each way. Anybody hear of this before? Its a 01 Disco with 84 thou on it.

I have never heard or seen a windshield just crack.
Look and you will find a small chip that was the starting point,
it could have been there a few days before cracking.

I have been off roading and cracked my own windshield with a rock
from my own tire.
My cost was $400.

This is nothing unusual, and as the other person mentioned, if you look along the cracl line you will see a chip somewhere that started it.
Now the challange for you is to find an inexpensive replacement, let us know what you get.

Had to replace the windshield on my 2000 already twice. The first one was similar crack in the area of attachment of rearview mirror. There was a little rock chip that I thought was not serious, but one day it just started running. So as Mike said, you may have had a small chip that did the same. Regarding my second replacement, that one was a major rock that had rolled down a slope during major and windy rain pour. Actually I was lucky it did not go all the way through, right next to A pillar on my (driver) side. Both replacements cost me around $ 250.00 each, with OEM Pinkerton glass.

We've replaced the windshield on our Disco II twice since we've owned it and it hasn't cost us a dime. It's a free service as part of our insurance, State Farm.

I live in San Diego, where there are many installers competing for the business. I did look at the actual invoice and have to retract, the lastinstall in Jan. 2006I paid was $ 297.00, but it was an installed price, directly in my warehouse. Still a great deal.
