Default Crower 229 cam in 4.0?

Ok, so I learned something the other day.
The 4.0 cam is different from the 4.6 cam.
I wasn't aware of that as I was under the knowledge that the differences were only in the lower rotating assembly.

During my latest rebuild on my neighbors '02 Disco 4.0 I had purchased and installed the same Crower 229 cam that I had used in my 4.6.

Will this have caused any problems?

It shouldn't cause any issues, as long as it was installed properly.

Good for either.
Crower only machines the end to make a different fit from Buick 215/300/340 to rv8. Doesn't matter if it's 3.9/4.0/4.6
It fits, it works. Just a short nose, lobes are same

Just make sure to do the first start up, 10-12 miles from civilization.

It was already installed. we've just been trying to track down a noise in the motor. I've ben through everything and shot of a major teardown I'm baffled.
It sounds like a bad lifter. Lifters are new and with the lower intake and valve covers off, they are all operating perfectly.
The cam looks like new and all the lifters are spinning as they ride the ramps.

When I read the profiles are different between the 4.0 and 4.6 I thought that maybe the new cam's lift was too much for the 4.0 setup.

People put "stock" 4.6 cams in 4.0 for "performance" so it shouldn't be an issue. I'm not sure of the gains, if any.

You are OK. I have a 229 installed in my 4.0. No issues.
