Custom Intake for Disco II
Ok, I'll see if I can get my hands on one of those soonish and give them a shot. Do a couple 0-60 runs each way and see of there's a sound difference.
No, my whole engine isn't painted. I painted the upper intake and the valve covers, and my mechanic decided to poorly paint my front cover while HG were being done. Oh well, atleast it's not really visible. Not the only thing he did wrong, he didn't get any more of my business after that.

[QUOTE=toofaroffroad;514016]I ran a set up like this for 3 years with no ill effect...but also you are crazy if you think you are noticing a HP response or fuel difference. you'd need probably 15 HP gain before you even noticed any difference through driving it. I was hopeful but nothing.
So I will let the app do the talking. I drive 36 miles each way to work. Normally I can't get past 15mpg, but normally average 14mpg each way. Did my normal drive today and low and behold 17mpg.
I totally agree that horsepower gains are doubtful. If anything it may smooth the horsepower line out if you really wanted to waste some money and dyno the setup.
But here is a link to the app I use. I mostly have it for tracking mileage for the rescues me and my wife do so we can keep track of the mileage but it also does mpg and diagnostics.

If you don't use them, nothing to be scared of.
There are two primary reasons to not use them.
1. K&N filters pass more dirt than a quality paper filter.
2. If you drive off-road it voids the K&N warranty.
Other than the above, as long as you don't over oil them they shouldn't be a problem.

You could, but OEM is VERY expensive, nobody (that I know of) makes an aftermarket airbox, and yes the plastic intake restricts air flow.
So I just happened to be looking at stuff for the truck on eBay and found someone selling my intake concept with one of my pictures used to list the intake. I know I shared this concept with everyone so they could try it out but I didn't expect someone to start making kits and selling my idea.
