I would not trust that block at all since the sleeve came loose. I would source a new block. Also that lip is nothing substantial. I have a block from an 03 that the sleeve hammered right through the lip. Probably not common but it can happen.

No need to replace if the block isn't cracked behind the sleeve. I'd pin them and move on, then they are captured and you can go back to rovering on with as much apprehensive enthusiasm as the rest of us lol

I seem to remember reading that the newer blocks had an O ring behind the sleeve at the bottom so that if the block did leak coolant wouldn't go down into the pan. In theory if this is true then even if the block is cracked, and you have top hat liners, you could still use that block.

There are no orings behind the OEM liners. There is a version of top hat liners that have orings to essentially create a wet sleeve if a crack develops. If you don’t want to be tearing apart or replacing your engine I would strongly recommend a top hat block, though it is pricey.

Thanks for the clarification...

I remember a few years ago Abran referred to a machine shop in Anaheim that installed top hats to existing blocks for somewhere around $1000 to $1500.

With shipping that would get pricey but not as much as a new top hat Turner block.

@Dave03S The local auto parts machine shop here will install Darton liners, they have not done a Rover but see no issue with doing one I asked.

Liners run 600 -700 dollars
Machine work was about 2500-3000 CDN as I recall
Hot Block test prior about 300
