Just curious how your doing your conversion? I did mine and there was no need to change that part out on my 00 Disco.

If your 2000 Disco has the internal components in the Center Differential that allow it to lock, all that you need to install is a shifter linkage that will allow you to engage it. You can use a shifter from a DI, a shifter from a 2004 DII or one of the aftermarket options like the Ashcroft...

Not really sure what that part is that you are installing, but my 2000 only required a shift linkage...

If he doesn't change that part he has to bend the linkage. Buy installing said part, "hi low selector housing" there is no need to bend the linkage.

Ah ha! Light bulb just went off. Thanks for the explanation.

To help with room ziptie all the cables out of your way. I took a long ziptie and zipped it to the holes where the shifter cover plate mounts. Be carefull with those bolts on the part your replacing. It is just screwing into aluminum and it will strip out.

Ah Ha! Then I'm really glad I held out for a 2004 linkage...

Less effort!

I would use innertube.
Cut a square on the bench.
Cut the opening.
Then around the edge - I would get aluminum and make a square of aluminium like a rim.

Drill holes 1/8" thru the aluminium and thru the innertube for pop rivets.
Then if you can use this to pop rivet this on with aluminium rivets.

Will look fairly pro too.

Ok guys, got the D1 CDL installed. All the linkage is hooked up, but I didn't cut the hole in the cover plate yet.

So I wanted to start the truck to temporarily move it. Key in the ignition, turn it, and nothing happens. Then, I was unable to remove the key! Not sure what's happening. After fiddling with the auto trans shifter, I was able to get the key out. Any ideas why it won't start??

What position is the shifter in? Did you unplug any connectors during the installation?

I also think it has to do with the shifter ralphobell.....hard to tell what position it's in since the indicator thing is off. It was in reverse (the reverse lights where on), but I think I got it in park now, but the shifter is hard to move around because it's mounted on the metal plate but the plate is not screwed down yet (still have to cut the hole to accommodate the new D1 CDL shifter). I also took off the clip that holds the auto shifter cable in place, and am having a hell of a time getting it back on.

And yes, multiple connectors are unplugged, but just seat heaters, windows, and other center console plugs. Nothing that I think would keep the truck from starting.

I'm getting too old for this ****....
