Default D1 CDL Shifter - Road Noise in Cabin

Installed a D1 CDL shifter in my '01 DII. The install went as planned, but I am getting road/engine noise through the CDL shift gaiter while driving down the road.

Should I have done something different during re-assembly? I did install a generic shift boot over the CDL shifter base, but that was to prevent dust/debris from mixing-in with the grease I packed into the shifter.

Has anyone else experienced road noise after the install of the D1 shifter? What have you have done to remedy the noise? I'm thinking about just shoving some insulation down the there.

I did my 01 this summer and I don't have road noise, but I didn't cut the hole big enough so know when I have it engaged and in reverse I get vibration through the console.

You messed with the natural order of things, road noise though the gaps in the cover you put over the hole you cut will allow road noise to come in.
Cover it with Dynamat, but that does require you to remove your center console again.

i remove my center console once a week to fiddle around down there.... somebody i know who is a little ghetto used house insulation. lol... it gets hot as hell down there because of the open space the road noise from my M/T's is loud already so whats a little more road noise thru the console... it's a truck not a smart car.

LOL!!
I thought I had a serious problem a few years ago, driving into work and while climbing the big hill on the expressway I heard this weird metallic rattling sound coming from the t-case shifter area.
Turns out my work van keys were laying touching the CDL shifter and the extra vibration from climbing the hill was causing the keys to rattle.

This was my plan! Pull the console and jam a little R-30 down there.
