Default D1 Rear Driveshaft Conversion

I am sitting here at work with some free time and daydreaming of all the plans for D1. One thing I came across at AB was the rear driveshaft conversion to convert from the rotoflex thing to a normal u-joint. I can see where reliability, especially off-road, would be increased. My question is if anyone has done this to their D1 and how difficult is the work? Does it require any special tools or disassembling the rear differential?

Don't waist your money, the roto flex will hold up well under anything you put it up against unles you have exceeded 3plus inches.

My plans only include a 1.5-2" lift so I will take your advice and save the money. Is the roto flex something that fails under normal use and light to moderate off road use? Thanks for the info.

I replaced mine at 88,000 miles of Death Vally, the Sierras and some pretty good Colorado trails.
They don't fail fast and give you plenty of notice so you can drop a new one on when your are boared with nothing to do.

With 111,000 miles on my Disco, should I be watching for signs of the roto flex going south? What are the signs of the roto flex going bad? I believe that the dealer did a lot of work to my Disco before I bought it, is there anyway to tell if the roto flex has been replaced by looking at it?

Thanks for all the input.

When it starts to go bad you will get a vibration and it will be full of cracks.
Inspect it everytime you change the oil and grease the other u-joints.

Knowing that there is no diffreence in the way it drives with the roto flex or the u-joint, I personally prefer the u-joint.

If your roto flex is good then just leave it alone.
I think the u-joint vs roto flex is a personal issue, unless you are going to lift the truck.
