First time in the rain today. Are they usually noisey...thuds at high and low postions?

How old are the blades? Certain types of rubber will be noisy.

Not sure how old the blades are....I don't mind changing them...but seems like they hit hard at the top position and bottom position...just hoping changing the blades will be enough.

Sounds like the wiper linkage under the windshield maybe
loose,, letting the arms to move to far.

If it was only doing it on one side not both I would just
take the wiper arms off and reset them at the bottom.

Tighten the linkage and/or take off the arms and move then a notch or two. They won't hit anything then
