I have an ELM327 bluetooth dongle that cost me $12 that I use with Digimoto Lite (free!) on a laptop for reading and clearing codes and collecting live data. I use it for friends cars and trucks too. I also have an autocom cdp+ that I picked up for $100 that I use with my laptop. It handles full diagnostics plus reads and clears ABS codes and also can be used to bleed the brakes and ABS module by activating the pump and solenoids. Works primarily with imports, although domestic cars sold in foreign markets are supported also. That meant I had to select a 2006 Escalade which was sold overseas to scan the codes in my friends 2006 suburban which was not.

I am trying to get an OBD2 app loaded up on an old iphone so that I can use it with the ELM327 but most of the apps only work with iOS 7.0 and above. I have an old iphone 3g and a gen2 ipod touch that only run ios 4.2.1 so I'm having no luck. I have the devices jailbroken so they connect to the dongle through bluetooth just fine but I can't do anything with them. Kind of bums me out.

My guess is yes, as many other tools can continuously display live data whilst hooked up (bit like the UG) but I cannot be sure. Some guys have and use the ELM 327 so maybe they know for sure.

Apple sets the Bluetooth to only work with the band for headsets and hands free devices so you need to jailbreak it and install roqby to open up the Bluetooth to other devices. Then you can install dashcommand or some other app to use the elm327 adapter. My problem is that the device I want to use is an older iPod touch that can't run a newer iOS do I can't use the current apps.

ELM327 Bluetooth and Ultra-gauge. I would really like to get a Novacom Evolution. Last December they ran a 20% off sale. If they do it again it would be tempting...
