Default D2 front driveshafts rebuild

I've seen a lot recently on front D2 driveshafts (propshafts in the UK) so I thought I post this for rebuilding guidance.

Have you got a photo you can post Dusty. I've done 2 now and both have been .......... eeerrr .............. problematical. (problem is when word gets around you've done one someone turns up with theirs who's gotten into the sh!te cos they started reassembling it wrong)

Isn't the pin with the spring fitted inside 'fixed' into the shaft end trunnion? as I'm not sure it comes apart as a separate item. What exactly is wrong with the pin is it mullered? or just worn?

The pin looks to be welded in or maybe heat sweated into place (I can see some blueing around it on the article photo). If you remove the outer ball rubber seal you can maybe get a closer look at how it's fixed in. I believe the seal is 'glued' onto the trunnion so go careful 'cos I've never seen them as a separate item for sale yet.

Yes....I was halfway joking, as I didn't even think it was possible It does look like it's welded on there. The problem is I don't have any idea how to find a replacement to weld on there. I guess I can take it to a driveline shop.

You're a bigger wind up merchant than me I think if the pin was worn you'd need to have one made and hardened or case hardened (it probably has a small flange) and either MIG or TIG it onto the trunnion after the old one was ground off. How you'd get it square and centralised F.K's, I'll watch you do it first though

Take the drive shaft to a drive line shop.
Let them repair it.

Make sure they spin and balance it.
