Default d2 has trouble starting

Hello all I have a 2002 d2 and have been having trouble with the vehicle starting. From my research it seems to me that my problem is my fuel pump, but i dont want to jump to any conclusions. Sometimes the vehicle starts fine but other times it takes a couple of turns of the key. I have had this problem for almost a year but now finally have the time a resources to hopefully fix it. Is there any way to verify that the problem is the fuel pump before diving into that project? Thanks for your time.

the next time it doesn't start, open the hood. There is a little valve on the silver fuel rail. open the cap and push it in and see if you get a squirt of fuel.

If you have access to a fuel pressure gauge....with the truck running and the gauge hooked to the fuel rail port you should have pressure in the mid 30's psi ( 32-36 psi)
I recently bought a gauge with all the adapters from Harbor Freight for $39.00....not a bad investment. How old is the fuel filter ? with the crap fuel thay are feeding us these days you should change it at least once a year.

no filter on the D2. It is a sock in the tank.
