Scored on two used SAI manifolds! On to the next problem... I've removed the upper intake manifold, front AC/ PS brackets, Fan and cooling lines/hoses to Intake manifold. I don't see the disconnect to the fuel rails... Any suggestions?

At the firewall end, the 2 rails come together with a single pipe - you can't miss it. Find the disconnect and press the tab on it, but not too hard otherwise it sticks.

I was reading "Engine refresh" by Paulp38A.com, he recommended replacing the tappets while doing the HG job and using the silver Payen valley gasket instead of the black composite. Any ideals on this? I'd rather do the job right and only once.

I wouldn't put lifters in an engine without replace the cam too.

X2: lifters and cam go together. You don't want to be replacing a cam as well, unless you have worn lobes.

X3 on Bundu....cam, tappets, push rods all go together... the gasket Kit from AB is fine.... The best would be Cometic but there $100.00 per side... If you want you could do ARP studs...I am doing my daughters 2000 DII now and i got studs.... I understand the science behind it but we will see.... Doing on my 2004 also but thats a full rebuild...

That reminds me of another great tip that I read about but it was too late for me to use:

Cut the heads off of four of the old head bolts and thread them into the block to use as guides when reinstalling the heads.
