D2 Lift kit questions .. HELP!!
Jessie,
I just installed a 3" TF lift on mine (2" MD springs with 1" spacers since the 3" only come in HD). The heavy duty springs will be a very rough ride if you don't have aftermarket bumpers and a winch. Here is what I've found: you cannot fit a larger tire on the 3" lift versus the 2". There is plenty of room vertically, but the wheel well opening is almost exactly 33" and that's what limits you. I have 18" wheels (yes I know, all you badasses run 16" bc you're hardcore off-roaders) so I went with 275/65r18 Toyo MTs that measure out at 32.5". A lot of people on here will tell you that you're going to lose all your power going to a tire that size but they don't know what they're talking about. I've owned everything from 400+hp corvettes to pickups on 38" tires and I'm telling you, the power loss is absolutely minimal.
You don't need anything more with a 3" lift than a 2" in regard to panhard bars and castor corrections, but you will at 4". Plus the price is essentially the same. I'd go 3" - most people on here will agree that you'll wish you'd gone higher in the future.
Here is a picture of mine to give you an idea of the result.

Maybe Zack, I will say mine has gone lower over time with all the extra weight I carry. RTE Bumpers, winch, 2 spare tires and wheels, Safari Rack, Tool Box etc. For offroad 3in is about perfect. I drive mine 60% on road 40% off. It is fine for daily, just don't care much for driving it much in Hot Sweltering Summer weather. Needed or not I went with the RTE panhard bar, lower shock mounts, Adj Caster, HD draglinks and Tie Rods, and adjusted Steering for lift, etc....and it tracks straight. But it is truly awesome offroad and it should be. Keep in mine this is a toy I have other daily car to drive. I would not like making this my daily unless I was way younger than 54 as I prefer more comfort. I would not have been happy with 2in unless I was on a low budget. Go big or stay at home was my motto building this.. oh you will need different drive shafts to go to 3in. Tom Woods was my choice.
