If you have a raised air intake you have completely negated its purpose by doing as you suggest.
K&N makes a filter box as well. Does the same as the factory design without the flex into the fender.

a metal one would cost more than a used Disco!

The mold cost on a plastic one would be in the 30-50k range.

then you have to ship the Albatross.

I’ll leave that project to someone who enjoys pain and hardship.

And completely negates the ability to use a raised air intake. And still allows dust and dirt to enter into the filter which allows more to pass thru than the factory type filter. Not my idea of a good place for a K&N especially with the MAF. Do as you wish but I prefer not to worry about stream crossing and water ingestion. I guess it is a non issue on most highways and parking lots.

You could still use a snorkel with a K&N airbox.
But, I prefer stock too, and want the new part from Abran.
