Default SOLVED!!?? Damn, now what? EDIT!!

After all the "fun" with apparently setting off the inertia switch, then having the flashers not shut off after the switch was reset, I left the truck overnight in the garage, with the flasher fuse (15) in the engine compartment pulled. I went out this afternoon to see if I could figure out what was wrong, plugged in the fuse and expected the flashers to start up once again. And, NOTHING! No flashers running on their own, all good. So my question to the group, is there perhaps a "reset" time period that is with the inertia switch? The switch reset just fine yesterday and allowed the engine to start, but still the 4 way flashers were on, the dash switch not pressed, just on. That's why I pulled the fuse. Now it's back to normal, starts, no flashers, etc.

Most of my work with my Disco over the past 17 years as been either mechanical, or dealing with the ACE system, and the occasional door switch or window unit.

Does anyone have any words of experience or thoughts? Or was it the LR gremlins that came in the night and fixed it, just to mess with my head?

Thanks, all.

OK, interia switch was triggered. Reset it and truck now runs. BUT I CANT GET THE 4 WAY FLASHERS TO STOP. Maybe something I can do with a Nanocom? Or some other trick. When I pull the 15 amp fuse in the engine compartment box, they stop, but also disables my turn signals.

Really puzzled and PISSED! This is what I get for messing with it when its not broken!!

OK, finally got some time to do some upgrades to my Disco. Done with fixing others problems on their cars, other projects, etc, just time for me to do some things to the Rover. I'm relocating the washer bottle to the passenger side of the engine compartment, using the kit I bought a Long time ago from Lucky 8. Had a bracket fabricated to mount on the area of the firewall where the SAI system would be if mine were so equipped. I've drilled no holes, but using an existing bracket to mount the washer tank. All good, now to take a look at moving the wires and hoses, pulled off the wheel liner on the L front wheel well, and unplugged one of the pumps, which I was going to see whether it was front or rear washer, climb into the truck, turn on the key, and for what ever reason, the 4 way flashers come on!!! the switch was not engaged, and trying it on and off did nothing. I pulled the 15 fuse in the fuse box in the engine compartment, and of course, it stopped. Reinstalled it and 15 seconds later, they came back on!!

I have absolutely no idea what in the heck is going on. Any thoughts would be great. No water ingress, no leaks, worked fine when I pulled into the garage last night, and when I moved the truck over to the middle of the garage to work on it.

Not sure what I did, but I did something?????

HELP!!

Gonna have to trace it out in the circuit diagrams - switch, relay, etc. Start with the RAVE.

With my Nanocom, I can go into the Valeo mode, the flashers stop, and the odo reads “0”. When I exit that level, changing nothing, the flashers start up again.

Not sure why.

That’s weird. OK so what triggered your inertia switch then? That would be my first question:

Secondly, my 2004 D2 when it was new UNDER WARRANTY had the inertia switch replaced under warranty many moons ago. The symptom? Hazards came on while I was driving. Vehicle sometimes refused to start. Inertia switch kept self-tripping. Sound familiar?

Here is what the Inertia Switch does, per the RAVE manual (not just me speculating) is:

1) Supplies power to the IDM (in the interior fusebox) which when it gets no power, the car won’t start
2) And if the BCU detects no power is supplied to the IDM, but BCU sends a command to unlock the doors so that occupants could get out provided that the alarm is not set. Are your doors also unlocking themselves?
3) Operation of the inertia switch operates the hazard warning lamps.

BTW have you tried turning off and on the key a few times ? Sometimes that can reset the BCU / inertia switch.

Apparently I had bumped (?) or disturbed the inertia switch as I was fitting a washer tank relocation kit, placing the new tank in that general area of the fire wall. I found the switch had been triggered, so I pushed the rubber diaphragm, got a click and the truck would start. But the flashers still continued.

pulled the fuse, left it parked overnight w/o the fuse, reinstalled it in the morning, and no flashers. So perhaps a time delay? Or just it’s a 25 year old British vehicle and it’s Lucas wiring?

Not sure, but I’m going another route for the washer tank that’s for sure!

Glad to hear you got it sorted. It’s not the first time someone has bumped the switch by accident. The time delay on the flashers is a new one to me.
