Dash Cams
Any recommendations for dash cams?
I’m thinking of something that sits nicely behind the rear view mirror.
Do people run a wire to the back and have a rear cam as well?
Looking to have evidence for accidents etc.

I am currently using the 70mai Omni.
https://70mai.store/collections/dash...s/omni-dashcam
It use it for recording my offroading runs and accident recording (god forbid). It does not have a permanent rear view, but will rotate 340-deg on verbal command. The lens will rotate right and left on "shoot right" and "shoot left" verbal instructions, ie, great for offroading and focusing on the trail.
I figure a rear end collision means the party behind me is usually at fault anyways. I know there are models that offer a rear cam view. But it involves wiring a separate lens unit which I decided is not needed for me.
It looks like the price has gone up. I recollect purchasing it for around $120-$150 when it was on sale a few years ago. No need to buy a memory card as it has built in memmoery.
I have also tried another popular brand prior - Viofo. The unit lasted only a year.
My windshield was a little dusty... here is an example of a video with this cam:

I have these in 3 cars. Honestly, great camera, it records accidents, is completely hidden behind the rear view mirror. Wires in nicely. Good qualtiy video and sound. No weakness at all. Good app, wifi. I never set up the rearview camera, but i can see the value. I see no reason to spend more.
REDTIGER F9 Dash Cam 4K Front and Rear 1080P, WiFi GPS Car Camera with 32GB Card, Dual Dash Camera for Cars, Loop Recording, Night Vision, Parking Mode, Smart App Control, Support 256GB Max https://a.co/d/3vVW5KK

Just ordered one of these. There are so many out there for the same price point, it’s nice to have a recommendation. I’ll definitely use the rear lens. I’m assuming the night mode is garbage. Looking for that bit of piece of mind.
How is the parking mode?
thanks.

I’m running a wolf box rear view dash camera combo it’s fantastic. It can do rear view cam only, front view only or split screen. Also does gps speed etc

I run a Thinkware u3000 F&R with a dedicated battery for parking mode. Works great and even caught some thieves breaking into my garage which the policed used the footage which led to an arrest. Worth every penny tbh. I have one in each of my cars with a battery except my defender which I'm using a wolfbox mirror style one so i can have a full time camera based rear view camera. But the wolfbox doesn't have as robust a parking mode or the runtime in parking mode as the thinkware.

Installed the Redtiger F9. Was straightforward, easy to hide the wires in the headliner and down the A pillar cover.
I did install the rear lens as well. More problematic with running the wire through the rear door wiring grommet. And my rear glass has tint, so the picture is a touch dark, I need to trim a small hole for it to look through.
The picture quality is far better than I imagined. Think i’m used to old tech that doesn’t impress.
I turned off the ding when it starts and stops, so it’s easy to forget about.
I havnt bothered with the parking mode which needs different wiring to give it power when ignition is off. (But is somehow different to always live.)
So far very happy.

We have three vehicles. All of them have front and rear cameras. They have more than paid for themselves several times.
I've been using BlackVue ones for years and find them very easy to install. In two of our cars I also run external power supplies for the cameras. Keeps them going in park mode without any draw on the car. In my D2 I use a voltage switch that disables the camera as the battery voltage drops.
I even have a Garmin unit I take with me in rental cars. Can set that up in minutes and do so before I leave the parking lot.
I do recommend keeping a spare memory card in the car. Cameras like these can be hard on SD cards.

You can eject the microSD card and pull the video off with your computer or you can download the app which is pretty easy and view the film on your phone. It's nice to be able to pull video remotely.
The app is pretty good all in all.
I used an add a fuse to power mine to an always on fuse. I think you need this for the accident feature. It will save retroactively when it feels a jolt.
I never hooked up the reverse camera but maybe I will soon.
