Hi all. Just got 51 plate Discovery Td5 auto. Two problems - first is that neither Sport or Manual mode lights come on (not even at ignition) so the mode switch by the gear lever does nothing - secondly I believe the LCD display is supposed to display the selected gear (mine doesn't). Are these two faults connected or totally separate, and anyone got any ideas on how to fix??? Any advice appreciated, Thanks

 

Check the shifter linkage. There should be a plug or two there. They should send their information to the cluster via the computers. That's where I'd start.

 

Thanks for the reply, does that involve stripping down the gear selector or is it something that can be done from underneath the car? Don't really know where I'm looking!!

 

Any recent work done to this, or did it just happen on its' own?

I'd be looking at BCU or XYZ.

You should be able to lift the black plastic around the shifter and see if that button is plugged in, the selector switch should be with the actual linkage just below that black plastic trim around the shifter
