Default Delay in engine crank after turning the key

EDIT: I replaced the ignition switch and it resolved the problem.

2002 4.0 SE 110k miles

The problem is intermittent. When I turn the key, nothing will happen for a second or two, then the engine cranks and starts.
Sometimes it acts normally.
Sometimes I turn the key and nothing will happen, so I turn it back to the 1 position, then back to the crank position and it will start.

It always starts.

The key goes into the ignition barrel without issue.

Items that could potentially be a problem, but have been replaced recently:
-Battery
-Crank Sensor
-MAF

My guess is it's either an ignition switch or a ground cable.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? I'd like to try and pinpoint possibilities before I unnecessarily replace parts.

Thanks

My money is on a bad earth ground or even a dirty exciter wire connection.

I'm going to guess a loose/dirty connection at the battery, a failing starter solenoid or loose connection there, or the ground behind the driver side head (to the firewall) isn't tight.

I know, alot of guesses, but that hasn't happened to me before/yet.

Do you hear any relays or the solenoid when nothing happens?

This^^^^

A lot of good advice already, and yes...clean, tight connection and battery quality are paramount to starting a vehicle...so these are good areas to rule out first.

However, if you turn the key and hear absolutely nothing...your ignition switch or starter relay (if LR uses one, not sure...talking generic here) may be getting bad.
