Diamond plated roof rack floor :) pics inside
LOL - don't forget about the Spice Girls and Simon Cowl - lol. And everyone should know that I am just messing around...
right now its sitting on the gutters i have custom brackets that i have to paint still..... as for the cost, before i found this premade basket i had 30$ worth of steel, but the basket was 70$ and i returned the steel EMT i bought. the custom brackets were 80$ and 40$ for paint and hardware to mount the rack like bolts and such.... the diamond plate was 170$ but you dont need it so... 250$ should have coved this if i was gonna build it...
i would defiantly buy a rack next time... this sucked to build and weld and mock up

$250 parts + $25/hr(if you have 10hr into it) = $500. That's still not bad for having a sweet expedition style rack. Be sure to give us some pics once you have the mounting done as well.
Good Job so far man-

you did a real bang up job on the rack. my original conern still stands of the one piece solid checker plate flooring you used and a new concern for me is that you only are using 2 supports per side. if you look at most racks they have 4 or more supports, this is to not put so much pressure when the rack is loaded on one spot on the gutter. just a thought.
i weigh 220lbs and i can stand in the center of the rack and jump a lil and nothing happens... its for looks mostly anyways... i might put a cooler up there or maybe a box of camping stuff!!! so i'm not worried bout the weight cuz i dont plan on carrying anything on it. my orginal plan was for 3 on each side but it was cold when i was welding so i did 4
I would seriously weigh that thing and check wind deflection. I am with the others on it taking off or crushing your roof. Be careful on the test run. Have you thought about a deflector on the front?
the rack weighs around 60-70 lbs without floor and the 4 1/4 inch thick flat bar mounts....
i'd say in total its around 120 lbs or less... i can pick the rack up complete with one arm
