Default Different intake on Thor 4.0

Has anybody put a gems intake on a Thor engine or found a better intake that will help with more airflow. I know the gems throttle body is larger and should get more airflow. Just curious.

Only thing is that you'd still have to use your factory MAF sensor which is probably still going to keep you bottlenecked. If you went to a larger diameter sensor it would register a lower % of the air coming through and make you run lean.

If you wanted to get REALLY adventurous, you could replace your current manifold with this Edelbrock unit.

Edelbrock 2198: Performer Rover Intake Manifold | JEGS

And then replace your EFI system with this one from Holley...

Then try to figure out how to tie everything else together!

The intake tract is resonance tuned.

Going to shorter runner length (GEMS) or really shorter runner length (edelbrock) is going to be detrimental to almost the entire RPM range except maybe the part from 4000 to the 5200 rev limit

The factory intake is, in all probability, capable of 400+hp without being a restriction. As well as supplying a smooth power band, not top heavy like a short runner intake.

Biggest restrictions are the cam, the rough casting of the intake ports (particularly the short side radius),
the exhaust manifolds, and the tuning. The factory corrugated intake tube is also a restriction but that's a $20 fix.

I don't remember how big the intake ports are, but in most cases you are only talking about a 1-3% improvement in peak hp with port matching with street engines. Time is better spent on smoothing the entire runner on the head and working over the radius.
