Disco 1 Clutch? Gearbox?
Hi,
Recently I have noticed my Disco's clutch slipping a little bit on steep hills, I thought I had a couple of months before I needed a new clutch but last night my wife called me to say she was stuck. The car seems to go into gear properly but it goes nowhere, does not seem to engage at all. Could my clutch burn out so completely in such a short time? or could the problem lie elsewhere?
Thanks
Peter

If there was a fluid leak then the clutch wouldn't disengage the drive. Possible jammed Slave or, less likely, master cylinder or linkage. Is the peddle easy or stiff ? Have you checked the transfer box linkage to make sure it's not got knocked into neutral ?
Fluid seems fine,
ah well, I've left it in to my local thief, er. . . . I mean mechanic.
I have no time to do it myself and I'm miles away from my garage and tools.
I suppose its remortgage time again
Regards & Thanks

OK, I've just gone through getting a 2nd on the house to put a new transmission and clutch in my 96 Disco and things have definately improved with shifting with the following exception.
It seems that the engagement point for the clutch is almost at the top of the pedal. This makes it real hard when starting out in 1st gear. The only thing the mechanic can think of is bleeding the hydrolics for the clutch again. I've just purchased a LR service manual for my Disco off ebay, but it still hasn't arrived.
I'm hoping someone may have encountered this problem before or have some other ideas.
Thanks,
Scott
