I have a similar problem. Initially I replaced the switch and all was good to go - however, later on it failed again. I bought ANOTHER switch and noticed some blackening on the plug that goes into the blinker/headlight switch. There's a freaking short in there that will kill the dash lights but not affect the headlights. Be careful with this... from my experience with this, the rear tail lights will be out as well. Brake lights will work, but the driving lights are out. Got pulled over for it...

I'm trying to figure out how to fix this - as it's been impossible to find a new plug. It's gotten to the point where I can't wiggle it around to restore the lights... It just crackles and sparks and flickers the lights, but I can't get them to stay on.

I'm wondering if all the switch failures are from the same/similar short... ??

Could be, like I said before I put in a relay (simply bypasses the switch and powers the driving light circuit externally while the headlights are on) and I have never had a problem since.
