Question Disco 2 Steel Rear Bumper Fitment Issues

Hello Folks! While I was off-roading this past month my departure angle was a bit to steep and a smashed my rear oem bumper, no big deal though just an excuse to upgrade. So I went over to Rimmer Bros and purchased a Terra

steel bumper, it arrived yesterday, I thought it would be a fairly straight forward job, however it is proving otherwise. The bumper seems to be angles downwards as well as a solid 3/4 in too low, I had no problem getting the bolts in, so I am not sure what the problem is. If anyone has had this same problem I would love to hear how you solved it. (as a side not the original bumper had no fitment issues so I don't think it has anything to do with car itself.)

Did you try putting a floor jack under it, and lift it on the drivers side? Passengers side looks reasonably close, but using a floor jack may get you the positioning you're looking for.

Brian.

I have not tried that yet, though I thought about it, it was late and I didn’t want to force anything before doing some research. I’ll give it a shot in the morning, thank you Brian!

What's the main reason folks are swapping the plastic bumpers with steel?

Because the plastic ones are expensive and will break again

What Ben said, the bumper was only $250 brand new, you could barely find a used plastic one for that, which will just break again . Also when you off-roading, generally speaking the more plastic parts you can swap for steel the better, plastic will break and snag on stuff, steel will slide off. Also you can’t put red recovery shackles on the oem one

Maybe [another] dumb question, but how do you think the Disco would fare if ever rear-ended if it had a steel bumper? Seems like the plastic one would break and absorb some of the impact before reaching the frame?

Haha, yah I’ve been thinking about one Brandon, you are probably right since the bumper has no give it probably would have a higher chance of bending your frame, but most people won’t buy the bumper unless you off-road, in which case, you/ I decided that better off-road performance was worth losing some on road safety, but to each their own

My D1 = metal bumper & my D1 survived being rear-ended at 45MPH by an F250.
