One question, how can I flush all the ATF out? I know from changing out the ATF in my car, that only about half the fluid drains from the pan. The garage I called can not service a LR due to the fittings and I don't want to take it to a dealership. Is there any way to manual flush all the fluid myself? Thanks in advance.

Brian
You can't flush all the ATF out of the tranny, there are no drain plugs in the torque convertor.
Best you can do is cgange the fluid in a couple thousand miles again and you should be fine.

...the other option on changing the ATF would be to take the truck to a shop that can flush it completely. What they do, is attach to the line that goesfrom the transmission tothe ATF cooler, and as the engine is running (in turn running the ATF pump) pump out all the old ATF, including what was in the torque converter, while at the same time replacing it with new ATF. The machine to do this costs a couple grand so usually only shops have it.
Up to this point I have been changing the ATF myself but it is always a messy job, and even if you do it again in a couple thousand miles the best you can end up with is about 75% new ATF.

Yea,I called a local shop and they don't have the connection for a LR. I think I might just try to change it myself. Thanks for the help.

I've also seen advice on I think an old explorer website years ago about creating a "loop" yourself by filling a bucket with new atf, putting the end of a hose in there, hooking the other end of that hose into the "input" side of the tranny cooler (wherever that is) and then put the "output" side of the tranny cooler into an empty bucket and watching the tranny oil pump out (this is all after you drop the pan & put in a new filter first by the way. That way you flush out all the fluid but again I am just recalling from what I read years ago & have never done this myself. I think I remember they premeasured how much fluid they had in the 5 gal bucket first so they'd always have the right level of fluid in the tranny. Also it involved 2 people, 1 to actually start the car & stop it when needed & the other to man the hoses & keep an eye on the 'input' bucket....

Hope that helps & please anybody that has an opinion on doing it that way chime in, don't want to give bad advice by any means!
Regards,
Walter

Be careful with trying to flush a Rover tranny with over 100,000 miles on it. If you are able to find a shop that can hook into your truck, they can clean out too much of the varnish and laquers that are holding many of the seals together and the next thing you knoe the tranny dies. I have seem it happen many times on older less maintained trannys.

When your Rover was serviced did they change the plugs and wires? If so and they removed the intake plenum to do it they may have reused the plenum gasket causing a large vacuum leak. Or maybe your gas cap is still loose

Have you checked all your vac lines?

If you go to your neighborhood autozone they can check and clear the codes for free. Or for less than the price you paid you can buy your own OBDII reader.

I would go back and request your money back. that fault codes is for. P0440 Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction
which is not relate to the gas cap but the the evap sytem under the hood.

There is no 85 K service, there is a 90K, why not call and ask them?
If you are mechanical, you can save a good $300 in labor by doing it your self.
