Default Disco II ATF?

I don't want to put the wrong ATF in this guy...Manual says:

Use Texaco MTF 94 oil for refill and topping-up. If
MTF 94 is not available, ATF Dexron IID or ATF
Dexron III may be used.

Last time I was at the auto parts store I didn't see anything that said ATF Dexron IID or Dexron III?

Any input?

When I did my transmission service last year, being a second owner I didn't know if the filter had ever been changed. So I proceeded in getting a new filter, and chose to go with Mobil1 full synthetic ATF fluid. I was recommended to not flush the transmission, so I just drained the fluid, removed the pan, changed the filter, re-installed the pan and filled up with the said fluid( per the step by step directions of my Rave Cd), creating a somewhat semi-synthetic fluid. Later this year, I will drain and refill with Mobil1 ATF,creating an even more synthetic mix, and therefore gradually switching to full synATF.

I had searched a lot before doing this and everyone that had done it was claiming to be problem free. I can attest to that, since I did it some 9 months ago and the only effect that I noticed, was my transmission shifting much smoother.

FYI.

Any of the Dextron 3's will be just fine. You know you don't have to change the filter on that tranny if it is a D2.
Also if it is a D2, do you know how to refill it?

I don't have to change the filter? ACK! I just spent $70 on a new filter.
I think I know what's involved with refilling this beast. I bought two different fluid pumps because I don't expect to be able to pour out of the ATF bottle into the fill hole.
I'm figuring it's going to be just like doing the differentials just more of a pain in the buttocks.

Being that I already have the filter...to change or not to change?

Actually the filter does have to be changed once, at the 30000 miles service ( I think that is the one) and the second filter is good for the life of the vehicle. In my opinion, I say it is wise if you cannot find proof of that service being done, that you go ahead and perform the filter change.

under the hood there are two Land Rover Service Campaign stickers...I don't think either one of them are newer than 2001 or 2002. I guess if I'm going to climb around in the dirt with tranny fluid, I might as well try changing the filter. I just hope that I have the right torx bits to get it off.

I dont understand how a filter can never need to be changed. Parts wear and particles contaminate the fluid and clog the filter. The older the machine the more junk that gets loose.

ok I changed the filter. I'll spare everyone the gruesome details of this ordeal...but it's done.
HOWEVER-I was told to check the fluid while it was running and in park, which I did...I filled it until I got a slight stream coming out of the fill-hole that ran down the oil pan.

By slight stream, I mean a somewhat steady stream but not to the point where you'd rush to get a catch-pan...It would just run down to the low point on the pan, gather up and then drip.
At this point I capped it and had my wife drive it around the block. She said it sounded like "WEEEEEE" when she drove it. I didn't test it but it did sound like it was "whining"

indicative of an over-fill? This is so much more fun than just having a dipstick!

I would check the fluid level again. Usually after you change the filter you check it every day for the first couple of days to make sure it is full.
Was the trk level when you filled it? Are you supposed to check it when hot? DI's are when hot but I dont know about DII's.
And yes dipsticks are better.
